Keyboard & Keycap Sourcing Checklist for Buyers
This checklist helps brands, distributors and buyers prepare a useful factory inquiry before requesting custom keyboards, custom keycaps, OEM/ODM production, samples or packaging.
1. Project basics
- Product type: custom keycaps, custom keyboard, keyboard kit, packaging bundle, private label project.
- Target market and buyer type: retail, distributor, brand launch, group-buy, corporate gift, gaming/esports.
- Estimated quantity or target MOQ.
- Target launch date or sample deadline.
2. Keycap requirements
- Material: PBT, ABS or other.
- Process: dye-sub, double-shot, laser, UV print or mixed process.
- Profile: OEM, Cherry, XDA, SA or custom.
- Language/layout: ANSI, ISO, Mac, regional legends.
- Colorway, artwork, reference images and packaging requirements.
3. Keyboard requirements
- Layout: 60%, 65%, 75%, TKL, full-size, numeric keypad or custom layout.
- Connection: wired, 2.4G, Bluetooth, tri-mode.
- Switch/stabilizer preference.
- Case material, plate, PCB and firmware expectations.
- Certification, labeling, packaging and region requirements.
4. Questions to ask the factory
- What is the realistic MOQ for my design?
- What sample cost and sample lead time should I expect?
- Which material/process fits my price and quality target?
- What files are needed for artwork, legends, packaging and production?
- What are the main cost drivers and quality risks?
